This past Friday, it was an absolute treat to visit my hometown, Pittsburgh, PA, for a wonderful gathering at the @augustwilsonculturalcenter Annual Gala, where I was honored with the organization’s Luminary Award!

Glimpses from the lovely evening are on the way, but in the meantime, allow me to share this wonderful chat I had with @theheatherabraham host of @talkpittsburgh prior to the gala.

I’ve felt that truth my entire life. And when Tamara Tunie, one of the most gifted performers and producers I’ve been blessed to work alongside, put words to what we’ve all felt while building Delta Blue, it really resonated with me.

And the way she put it made perfect sense: she said that sound is energy, and energy moves us. It shakes us awake. It lifts us. It connects us. And when you bring together blues and gospel, two musical traditions born from pain, resilience, joy, and hope, it hits every human being in the same place: the soul.

That’s the heartbeat of Delta Blue. It’s why we’re pouring everything we have into this piece. Not to impress people. Not to chase trends. But to create something that reminds people what it feels like to be fully alive. To hear something that stirs your chest. To be carried by melody and story and memory.

When Tamara talks about audiences leaving “vibrating,” that’s not exaggeration. That’s our prayer. That people walk out lighter, more open, more awake to the beauty in their own lives.

If you’ve followed my work over the years, you know I’ve always believed in stories that make people feel something real. Delta Blue is doing that for me.
